About Watsmen
Watsmen is building an engineering-led industrial group. We connect technical capability, disciplined execution and practical commercial judgement to deliver valuable industrial solutions.
Role Purpose
Generate and manage trustworthy geological and resource-origin evidence in Zimbabwe. Connect field observations, sampling and resource interpretation to Mezzarion's technical and commercial decisions, while keeping uncertainty, site constraints and the limits of professional competence explicit.
Key Accountabilities
- Plan and execute approved geological visits, mapping and sampling with defined objectives, competent supervision where needed and site-specific safety and access requirements.
- Maintain geological and resource datasets with source references, locations, methods, version history and confidence limits so that another competent professional can reproduce the interpretation.
- Implement sampling, chain-of-custody and laboratory quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) arrangements; investigate material anomalies and prevent unverified results from being treated as accepted product or resource evidence.
- Assess geology, mineralisation, quality variability and resource continuity within the assigned competence scope; identify the further technical work needed before development or offtake decisions.
- Prepare concise field and resource reports that distinguish observation from interpretation and support Group review of technical, processing, logistics and commercial assumptions.
- Coordinate mine, supplier and specialist interfaces without assuming daily mine-management authority; maintain open issues, follow-up actions, institutional records and practical handover cover.
- Deliver timely, accepted field and quality-assurance evidence; carry product and source limitations into trade and delivery handovers so commercial statements stay within the evidence.
First 90 Days
- By day 30: Audit the priority resource and sampling information, confirm site access/safety prerequisites, and agree the immediate evidence questions with country and Group technical owners.
- By day 60: Complete an approved field-evidence package with traceable samples, QA/QC results and reviewed interpretation; establish a usable controlled dataset and reporting template.
- By day 90: Deliver resource assessments that answer the priority decision questions, explicitly identify unresolved uncertainty and show reliable field-to-Group technical review and follow-up. Demonstrate an accepted field-evidence handover with quality controls and explicit product or source limitations.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant geological or geoscience qualification, or equivalent demonstrable professional formation, with field and resource-evaluation competence appropriate to the work and subject to any verified professional requirement.
- Practical experience in sampling design, geological logging or mapping, laboratory QA/QC and data interpretation, with evidence of technically sound reports.
- Ability to explain resource uncertainty and resist unsupported claims about quantity, quality, recoverability or production readiness.
- Competence in applicable geological data tools and disciplined handling of field records, sample identity and confidential information.
- Readiness for the role's approved field duties under safe arrangements; any professional registration or formal reporting authority must match the actual jurisdiction and scope.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with Zimbabwe geology, mineral supply chains or the commodities relevant to the assigned portfolio.
- Geographic information system (GIS) or geological modelling capability and experience coordinating multidisciplinary resource diligence.
Authority And Decision Boundaries
- Manage approved field-evidence activities, recommend technical follow-up and stop or escalate unsafe or unreliable work within the role's control.
- Resource/reserve certification, public technical statements, investment approval and mine operations require separate competent authority; commercial urgency cannot validate deficient data.
Key Interfaces
Head of Mining & Resource Intelligence; Group Technical Authority and relevant engineering specialists; Mines, suppliers and qualified laboratories; Local operating-company and site safety owners; Mezzarion commercial and resource-development owners.
Resource Intelligence, Group Trade Manager and delivery owners on field evidence, quality controls and source limitations.
How Success Is Evidenced
- Accepted field reports, traceable datasets and reliable sampling/QA/QC records.
- Decision-critical uncertainty identified early and resolved through proportionate work.
- Safe field execution, accurate technical communication and complete handovers.
- Timely accepted field evidence and accurate transfer of product and source limitations into commercial delivery.
Activation And Delivery Readiness
Assigned work requires confirmed resources, competent delivery capacity and the applicable approvals. The role operates within its documented delegation; appointment alone does not confer contracting, spending, technical-approval or system-access authority.
Location And Travel
Harare, Zimbabwe. Regular site-based fieldwork within Zimbabwe may be required for the assigned programme; actual pattern, accommodation and safety arrangements are confirmed before appointment.
Employment And Working Arrangements
Full-time employment, with annual performance reviews. Twelve-month renewable contracts where legally appropriate, with probation and renewal terms determined under local law.
Roles are on-site by default. Hybrid or remote working requires prior approval. No relocation assistance or visa support is provided.
