About Watsmen
Watsmen is building an engineering-led industrial group. We connect technical capability, disciplined execution and practical commercial judgement to deliver valuable industrial solutions.
Role Purpose
Build controlled, repeatable trade transactions that match verified customer demand to reliable supply, clear specifications and executable delivery and settlement arrangements. Protect margin, cash, quality and institutional records from quotation through final reconciliation.
Key Accountabilities
- Qualify proposed trades using customer and supplier evidence, product specifications, lawful sourcing, route feasibility and a documented transaction rationale before commitment.
- Prepare deal economics that reconcile landed cost, logistics, duties and other validated charges, payment timing, financing needs, price exposure and expected contribution; make assumptions visible.
- Coordinate supplier offers, customer requirements, technical acceptance and contract terms so that quantities, quality, delivery responsibilities and remedies agree across the transaction file.
- Build an executable shipment and document plan with local logistics owners, identifying milestones, title/risk transfer, inspection, insurance interfaces and settlement prerequisites.
- Maintain a controlled transaction register showing approvals, committed exposure, shipment status, exceptions, claims and collection; escalate deviations before they become hidden losses.
- Close each transaction through quantity, quality, cost and cash reconciliation, preserving counterparty performance evidence and lessons that improve future trade decisions.
- Own order-to-supply and settlement coordination for accepted trade; maintain landed-cost, supplier, claims and corridor feedback in the shared customer record rather than a duplicate opportunity pipeline.
First 90 Days
- By day 30: Map existing trade activity, counterparties, committed exposure and document gaps; agree the minimum transaction file with Finance, Legal and operational owners.
- By day 60: Test the trade review and execution workflow on an approved transaction or representative case, including downside economics, document checks and escalation thresholds.
- By day 90: Demonstrate a traceable order-to-settlement control cycle and a reconciled trade dashboard; present evidence-backed recommendations on repeatable trades and transactions to pause or decline. Demonstrate an order-to-supply and settlement handoff with landed costs, supplier performance and claims or corridor feedback.
Essential Requirements
- Hands-on evidence of managing cross-border industrial or commodity trade from enquiry through fulfilment and financial close.
- Strong transaction economics, working-capital and document-control skills, including the interaction of payment terms, shipment obligations and counterparty risk.
- Ability to interpret specifications and coordinate competent technical, quality and logistics review without substituting commercial judgment for specialist acceptance.
- Experience managing delivery exceptions, claims and customer/supplier communication with an accurate audit trail.
- Sound integrity and escalation judgment, with demonstrable care over sanctions, origin, customer and supplier checks through competent control functions.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with resource-linked or industrial consumables trade and Southern African corridors.
- Working knowledge of trade-finance instruments, cargo insurance and enterprise resource planning (ERP) or transaction-management systems.
Authority And Decision Boundaries
- Coordinate approved trades and recommend counterparties, routes and commercial terms within delegated limits.
- No authority arises from this title to execute contracts, release payment, create credit exposure, bypass diligence or redirect restricted capital; those actions follow separate approval records.
Key Interfaces
Group Finance and Treasury; Contracts & Commercial Manager and Legal; Mezzarion commercial interface; Regional trade, logistics and customer owners; Technical and supplier-quality authorities.
