About Watsmen

Watsmen is building an engineering-led industrial group. We connect technical capability, disciplined execution and practical commercial judgement to deliver valuable industrial solutions.

Role Purpose

Lead Mezzarion's upstream resource mandate through credible resource intelligence, disciplined portfolio development and coherent offtake architecture. Convert field evidence into sound Group decisions while preserving the distinction between strategic coordination, trade execution and the daily responsibilities of local operating companies.

Key Accountabilities

  • Define and maintain a resource portfolio with an explicit thesis, evidence maturity, ownership/rights position, economic assumptions, risks and a named owner for each material opportunity.
  • Direct geological and mining intelligence so that source quality, sampling confidence, technical limits and unresolved diligence questions remain visible in every decision pack.
  • Coordinate resource assessment with engineering, processing, infrastructure and logistics specialists to test practical development pathways instead of relying on headline resource claims.
  • Develop major offtake and strategic resource relationships with documented commercial logic, counterparty diligence, product requirements and approval routes, working with Group Trade rather than duplicating it.
  • Set clear mandates for Mezzarion's Group work and field interfaces, obtain local evidence from Anchor leaders and preserve statutory and operational accountability in the correct local vehicle.
  • Run portfolio and performance reviews that reconcile technical evidence, cash contribution, milestones and risk; stop weak pursuits and institutionalise relationships, methods and decision history.
  • Establish the customer route, evidence, economics and funding requirements for resource and offtake initiatives; preserve Mezzarion's upstream mandate and the responsibilities of local operating companies.

First 90 Days

  • By day 30: Reconcile the active resource portfolio, existing commitments and field evidence; identify the highest-consequence gaps in rights, data quality, counterparties and operational boundaries.
  • By day 60: Establish the resource decision-pack and review process with technical, finance and country owners; prioritise proportionate diligence that can change investment or commercial decisions.
  • By day 90: Present a ranked, evidence-backed portfolio with explicit advance, pause or decline recommendations, and demonstrate a working field-to-Group reporting and offtake coordination process. Demonstrate a resource or offtake initiative case with customer-route evidence, economics, funding requirements and explicit operating-company boundaries.

Essential Requirements

  • Evidence of leading resource-sector commercial or development work with sound geological, mining and industrial judgment.
  • Ability to interrogate resource and project claims, integrate specialist advice and distinguish established evidence from assumptions or promotional assertions.
  • Experience in portfolio economics, offtake or strategic counterparty negotiation and cross-functional decision preparation.
  • Demonstrated integrity in resource rights, community/stakeholder interfaces and cross-border operating environments.
  • Leadership that builds competent teams, documented knowledge and institutional relationships rather than dependence on a single dealmaker.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in mineral processing, resource-linked industrial development or Southern African resource supply chains.
  • Relevant technical, commercial or investment formation and a track record of improving resource-data or portfolio governance.

Authority And Decision Boundaries

  • Set approved platform work priorities and recommend resource, partner and offtake decisions within Mezzarion's mandate.
  • The role does not grant investment approval, licence ownership, technical certification or unrestricted contracting authority; daily mine shifts, dispatch and local employment remain with the responsible operating vehicle.

Key Interfaces

Head of Mining & Resource Intelligence; Group Technical Authority and engineering disciplines; Group Finance, Legal and Risk; Zimbabwe and Southern Africa Anchor leaders; Group Trade and commercial owners.

Commercial, CFO and COO on resource and offtake initiative readiness; local operating-company owners on delivery responsibility.

How Success Is Evidenced

  • Decision quality and progression of the resource portfolio against explicit evidence gates.
  • Verified operating/commercial contribution and transparent downside exposure.
  • Reliable field evidence, clear operating boundaries and transferable relationship records.
  • Decision-ready resource initiatives with credible customer routes and preserved upstream and local operating-company boundaries.

Activation And Delivery Readiness

Assigned work requires confirmed resources, competent delivery capacity and the applicable approvals. The role operates within its documented delegation; appointment alone does not confer contracting, spending, technical-approval or system-access authority.

Location And Travel

Istanbul, Türkiye. Resource-site, partner and regional visits are expected where justified by approved work; exact frequency and site-security arrangements are confirmed before appointment.

Employment And Working Arrangements

Full-time employment, with annual performance reviews. Twelve-month renewable contracts where legally appropriate, with probation and renewal terms determined under local law.
